Buddy's First Haircut

Starting to look like a hippie
Starting to look like a hippie

Buddy's hair was starting to get pretty long. I've never liked little boys with long hair like all of the child actors you see in the movies or on TV so we decided it was time for a haircut. We were going to take him to the barber shop but I a flash of stupidity and thought "why waste $9.00 on a barber when I can cut his hair myself?" Throwing common sense to the wind, we dug out the barbering tools, put Buddy in his chair, and set out to make him look handsome.

It's a lot harder than it looks
It's a lot harder than it looks

The first thing you realize is that 11 month old little boys and haircuts don't go together very well. It's not that Buddy minded getting his haircut, he didn't seem to care about the clippers at all, it's that he minded sitting still while getting his hair cut. I tried to do it like they show you on the Flowbee commercial but either I am a complete idiot or the people on the Flowbee commercial are all professional barbers faking like they are ordinary Joes. Needless to say it didn't turn out very well.

Not going very well...

I finally decided to cut my losses and tried to save my dignity by telling Nancy, "I think he'll look better with a buzz anyway." Nancy wasn't convinced.

Even getting Buddy to quit wiggling so I could give him a complete buzz was difficult. With Nancy and I taking terms holding him we managed to run the clippers over his head a few times. In the end he didn't look that bad with his new military style haircut and I saved myself the cost of taking him to the barber. In a final attempt at justifying my stupidity I told Nancy "the barber wouldn't have been able to get him to sit still either." Nancy still wasn't convinced.

The end result.
