Easter is always a fun time. Although there isn't any such thing as the "Easter Bunny" in our family, we still like to color eggs and have candy and have an Easter Egg hunt. We try not to trivialize Easter too much and strike a balance between teaching the kids about the true meaning of Easter and also having a little fun at the same time.
Coloring eggs has definitely beccome more fun as the kids have become older. Although we still have to worry about them spilling dye all over the place at least they have the patience it takes to dye the eggs instead of constantly taking the eggs in and out of the dye because they just can't wait to see what it looks like.
We had less than a full carton of eggs this year and we didn't even have time to hard boil them so we decided to just color them raw and hope the kids wouldn't break them during the Easter Egg hunt. Caroline had fun coloring eggs but Buddy was just too grabby to even sit on my lap so he was banished to the floor.
Once we finished coloring the eggs Brian snuck out back while the kids weren't paying attention and hid the eggs around the yard. It was fun to watch Caroline totter around the yard looking for eggs although she wasn't quite as good as the older girls at finding them.
The older girls get better at finding the eggs each year but every year there are one or two that they can't find and Brian can't remember where he hid them. Then it becomes a true Easter Egg hunt as Brian prowls around the yard trying to remember where that last egg was.
Brian and I were both on diets this year so we didn't do much in the way of candy - just a few jelly beans and such for the girls. In the end it turned out to be a nice, peaceful Easter and we are grateful for the blessing we have and the opportunity to remember Christ's birth and resurrection. |
